Are you are a person who suffers from poor blood flow to the lower limbs? If so, then the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) test may be for you. The ABI is a very advanced screening test that Dr. Montoya uses to identify PAD (peripheral artery disease) in his patients.
The Ankle Brachial Index test is safe, painless, and easy to do. Once finished, Dr. Montoya can provide a diagnosis and the best course for treatment.
During this simple, non-invasive test, Dr. Montoya will measure the blood pressure at your arms, ankles and then will compare the two numbers to calculate a ratio. If the ratio is between 1.0 and 1.4, then you most likely do not have PAD. If the number is between 0.91 and 0.99, then you may have borderline PAD. If the ratio is below 0.90, then you likely have PAD. To learn more about the ABI test and other tools used to assess circulation in your lower limbs, please contact our office today.
Dr. Montoya will first conduct a visual inspection for any wounds, discoloration, and any abnormal signs prior to a vascular test. He will then use the a multi-cuff automated device called the MESI mTABLET. This non-invasive device uses waveform analysis and vascular evaluation technology to generate diagnostic information.
Vascular testing is very important for the diagnosis of various conditions. Some of these conditions, like peripheral artery disease and chronic venous insufficiency, can greatly affect one’s quality of life and cause pain in the lower limbs. Circulatory problems in the feet and ankles can reflect issues throughout the body, making testing of the blood vessels important.
70% of patients with PAD do not have typical symptoms and are not diagnosed! This makes screenings very important for detection, diagnosis, and treatment.
